About the Paralegal Cup --
As the Student Director, Fallon Burns (centre) teamed up with her Humber College Paralegal Degree classmates, Karen Fair (right) and Doug Taylor (left) in 2013, to create a skills competition for paralegals. In 2015, three Humber Paralegal degree students, Sara Liden, Tara Lisowski and Madeline Williams, joined efforts with the initial steering committee to execute the 2015 Paralegal Cup.

For Immediate Release -- Humber hosts 2015 Paralegal Cup
Toronto, November 17, 2015 – Humber College is hosting the third annual Paralegal Cup – the only intercollegiate mooting competition exclusive to paralegal students in Ontario.

• The Paralegal Cup 2015 theme is ‘Professionalism and Civility’
• The competition will occur over two days, beginning on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 at Humber College, Lakeshore Campus. The event includes the competition, the finals, banquet and awards ceremony.
  • On Saturday, the rounds start at 9:15am and run throughout the day. Dinner will be served from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
  • On Sunday, the quarterfinals start at 9:00am. The final round starts at 1:00pm with the weekend’s awards being distributed at 2:30pm.

1. What is Paralegal Cup?
   • The Paralegal Cup is the only mooting competition in Ontario that is exclusive to Paralegal students enrolled in a Certificate or Diploma program. The competition strengthens student advocacy and critical thinking skills by focusing on oral and written advocacy, professionalism, and resiliency.
2. What is ‘Mooting’?
   • The modern activity differs from a mock trial, as moot court refers to a simulated appellate court or arbitral case, while a mock trial refers to a simulated jury trial or bench trial.

Fallon entered Humber College’s Paralegal Studies Degree program in 2010. Wanting to immerse herself in her field, she started the Paralegal Cup Student Mooting Committee in 2013.
